Kayl Kolkman
Kayl Kolkman is a privateer in the purest sense, owning, building, preparing, and racing his own motorcycles. A number of those skills are honed throughout the week, as he works as a motorcycle mechanic at his own shop, Kolkman Racing.
Despite the heavy workload and inherent disadvantages that come with being a full-blown privateer, Kolkman has proven repeatedly that he can hold his own against the best dirt track racers in the world.
Even while running a limited schedule, the Southern Californian has managed to register at least one Grand National Championship Main Event top-ten in each season from 2015-2019. He was particularly strong in 2019, in which he logged sixth-, seventh-, and tenth-place finishes in just four Main Event starts.
Kolkman also factored heavily in the early 2019 Mission Production Twins title fight, notching up a podium, a fifth, and a seventh in the season’s opening three races. Those combined efforts saw Kolkman end his ‘19 campaign ranked inside the top 20 in both the AFT Twins and AFT Production Twins championship standings.
After a season away, Kolkman returned to limited action in ‘21, logging top ten finishes in both Parts Unlimited AFT Singles and Mission Production Twins, highlighted by a fourth-place run in the Mission Production Twins Main at the Atlanta Super TT.
He made just one appearance in 2022 but made the most of it. He reminded the field of his speed and talent at the Castle Rock TT, finishing fourth in the Mission Production Twins Main while earning himself a slot on that day’s Mission SuperTwins grid to boot.
